Unite The People Inc.

Unite the People Inc., is a California-based nonprofit organization formed in 2014 by a small group of concerned citizens, defense attorneys, and families and friends of incarcerated loved ones — to fight for social justice and deal with our national problems of mass incarceration and the need for prison and sentencing reform. Our organization's mission is to become a pillar of hope in the lives of the many people affected by incarceration — whether it be individuals who are incarcerated or their families. We aim to bring beneficial change for those disproportionately affected by a system that neglects to see all people are capable of rehabilitation. Through campaign and service, we hope to aid as many individuals who have chosen to use their sentence time to better themselves and who wish to prove they can be contributing members to society. We want to assist those who do not deserve or wish to be swallowed by the penal institutions and labeled as a lost cause. We believe the goal of penitentiaries should be rehabilitation, not punishment, and we work to see needed changes are made.

REUNITEBNNER.png

The purpose of the #REUNITE campaign is simple: Reunite families impacted by mass incarceration. Severe sentencing does not make us safe. They are extra penalties added onto a base charge that make a person’s sentence longer. We call on all prosecutors and elected officials to stop the use of gang and gun enhancements that do not keep us safe or prevent crime. Show your support for reuniting families and ending severe sentencing by signing our PETITION.

our mission:

For The People, All The People.

Unite the People, Inc. is dedicated to assisting the lives of those trying to better themselves while serving their time. We also notice the disproportionate difference between sentencing that some people receive in comparison to others. Our justice system needs reform from laws to the penal institutions themselves. We work on creating and pushing campaigns that aim to make an actual difference in the lives of our loved ones incarcerated.

Unite the people helps author budget act of 2020

In Unite the People’s efforts to end mass incarceration, the organization advocated for milestone and positive credits for incarcerated individuals. We contacted and worked with Senator Nancy Skinner and her chief of staff to address these human rights violations, and what we can do to help. We are pleased to announce on June 29, 2020 Governor Gavin Newsom signed the 2020 Budget Act, which implemented one of the ideas we worked on. The CDCR has implemented Positive Programming Credit (PPC), which grants 12 weeks of credit to inmates without a serious rule violation.
