For Immediate Release:

Unite the People, formerly We The People Org, Organizers of the People’s Fair Sentencing and Public Safety Act of 2018, Have Received the Official Title and Summary to Begin Collecting Signatures to Qualify the Measure for the November 2018 Ballot The Organization is Urgently Calling on Assistance from Financial Supporters and Volunteers to Ensure Upcoming Ballot Inclusion

LOS ANGELES, Calif. January 22, 2018 – We The People Org (WTPO), the organizers behind the People’s Fair Sentencing and Public Safety Act of 2018 and a non-profit watchdog organization created to promote social justice in America, received the official title and summary from the State of California’s Attorney General's Office that allows the commencement of the signature gathering process to ensure that this important initiative makes it on the upcoming November 2018 election ballot. Tom Loversky, President of the People’s Fair Sentencing and Public Safety Act of 2018, says, “This initiative was designed to end the mass incarceration epidemic and reinforce the will of the people, since Proposition 57 did not.” In November of 2016, California voters overwhelmingly approved Proposition 57, which many believed would remedy prison overcrowding and save taxpayer’s dollars by offering a chance for early release to “all non-violent” offenders. However, CDCR and state officials disregarded the will of California voters and arbitrarily excluded non-violent third strikers notwithstanding Propositions 57’s clear mandate leaving many extremely disappointed.

WTPO needs immediate funds that will go directly towards ensuring that the measure secures its place on the November 2018 ballot. The first challenge that the organization is faced with is gathering more than 500,000 qualified signatures before the deadline in July 2018 to guarantee the measure indeed makes it on the ballot. Once enough signatures are gathered, the organization will be challenged with securing enough funds to ensure that the initiative is properly marketed to the public. There is an urgent call for financial supporters, members of the media, volunteers, activists, public figures and celebrities to get involved and to assist the organization with not only getting the word out, but to also secure immediate funds to hire a reputable signature gathering organization to collect qualified signatures and for the printing, advertising, marketing, and other administrative costs that are needed to guarantee the success of the measure. With estimated cost that exceed more than one million dollars, the organization is heavily relying on the initiative’s supporters, volunteers and donors to make it possible. Founder of WTPO, Mitch McDowell, says, “We feel certain that this measure will make it on this year’s November ballot, especially after receiving the fiscal impact letter from The California Legislative Analyst's Office, which stated that the measure would exceed $100 million annual savings to the state. That is what the taxpayers of California thought Proposition 57 would do.”

About We The People Org: We the People Org (WTPO), a non-profit watchdog organization created to promote social justice in America, is making changes in the lives of many people, from helping disadvantaged children to bringing families back together that have been separated by this country’s mass incarceration epidemic. WTPO brings hope to the hopeless and gives a voice to the voiceless. WTPO’s mission is to continue to shed light on social injustice around the United States and decades the state of California has needlessly wasted billions of taxpayer dollars by implementing irrational sentencing laws.

About The People’s Fair Sentencing and Public Safety Act of 2018 An initiative to exclude all non-violent offenders from life sentences under the harsh California Three Strikes Law, The People’s Fair Sentencing and Public Safety Act of 2018, has been approved by the California Attorney General for signature gathering for potential inclusion on the California November 2018 election ballot. The measure has been established by We the People Org, a non-profit watchdog organization that promotes social justice in America. The organization strongly believes when the initiative is passed, it will help put an end to California’s prison overcrowding dilemma and this nation’s mass incarceration epidemic by putting a stop to the waste of millions of dollars spent keeping non-violent, rehabilitated, low-risk people in prison for life. The People’s Fair Sentencing and Public Safety Act of 2018 initiative’s goal is to ensure that the allocation of the funds saved from mass incarceration are put back into education and higher education (lowering college tuition), prison rehabilitation, and youth crime prevention programs.
